This is one of the vessels which the High Priest used on Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. Lots were drawn to determine which goat would be used as a sacrifice to G-d, and which would be the scapegoat, sent off as an atonement for the sins of the people. During the era of the First Temple, these lots were fashioned of wood; in the time of the Second Temple, they were made of gold. These lots, reproduced by the scholars and craftsmen of the Temple Institute, are constructed of both wood and gold.
